There are many different types of headaches and many different causes. However, the most common is known as a cervicogenic headache that arises from the cervical spine or neck. It is a chronic form of headache and the symptoms may appear to be similar to that of a migraine. It originates in the form of a steady non-throbbing pain and can have a negative impact on ones quality of life.
If you are suffering from a chronic headache and tired of taking medicines, we could have the right solution for you.
At North Road Chiropractic we come across many individuals in our Oakleigh office who are struggling with recurring headaches. However, the good news is that chiropractic can help and possibly decrease such sorts of headache. This fact is affirmed by a recent research study, which clearly indicates that chiropractic care has been successful in dealing with migraine and headaches.
The study conducted involved 80 individuals who experienced at least 5 cervicogenic headaches in the last three months. The objective of the study was to determine how effective chiropractic care was for these types of headaches. The study also endeavored to find out the number of sessions that would be required to result in a successful outcome.
The participants were divided into four different groups. The groups were formed in such a manner that members of each group were similar in gender, age, number and intensity of cervicogenic headaches. Of the four groups, two were given chiropractic care while the other two were given light massage. Furthermore, one group from each treatment method received eight sessions while the other received sixteen sessions.
The patients were assessed prior to receiving care and at 12 and 24 weeks after their treatment was completed. The results indicated that the individuals who got chiropractic care instead of massage had fewer instances of a headache. Additionally, the patients reported that the improvement was maintained even after six months. The patients who were taking medicines for their headaches were able to successfully bring down their medicine consumption after the study was conducted.
The study clearly brings to light the positive result of chiropractic care for treating cervicogenic headaches. A natural and drug-free approach, chiropractic care is a great option.
